Dear Friends and Colleagues,

WBAI’s Interim General Manager Bob Hennelly has informed me that Ken Nash, a longtime WBAI labor journalist, producer, and co-host who, for many years, worked alongside Mimi Rosenberg to bring us Building Bridges, has passed away.

We are deeply saddened to hear of Ken’s death, but also inspired by reflecting on his lifelong commitment to telling the stories of working people and his unwavering belief in the power of collective action to create social change.

Building Bridges stands as a testament to that commitment. It is the longest-running and best-known labor and community affairs radio program in the New York metropolitan area, with a national reach through its weekly half-hour National Edition carried by broadcast and internet radio stations across the country. Through this work, Ken helped amplify the voices of workers, labor organizers, and community advocates—locally, nationally, and internationally—while fostering unity among those fighting for justice.

Over the years, Building Bridges has brought listeners powerful coverage of workplace struggles, community issues, and global movements for human rights, along with interviews featuring labor leaders and historic figures such as Nelson Mandela, César Chávez, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Harry Belafonte, and many others.

Ken’s dedication to principled journalism and movement-building left an indelible mark on WBAI and on labor radio more broadly.

Mimi Rosenberg has shared a moving tribute to Ken, which can be heard here:
