Resolution
of the
PACIFICA
FOUNDATION RADIO
PACIFICA
NATIONAL BOARD
Honoring
Eddie Ellis
Whereas, the Pacifica National Board acknowledges
the recent passing of our WBAI colleague, Eddie Ellis, and wishes to celebrate
his life and offerings;
Whereas, Eddie Ellis was the founding Executive
Producer of WBAIÕs weekly program ÒOn the Count: The Prison and Criminal
Justice ReportÓ and faithfully served the station for 12 years;
Whereas, Eddie Ellis had a deep respect for the
Pacifica mission as demonstrated by his ongoing co-hosting of programs and
recruitment of a team of formerly incarcerated individuals who provided
quality, in-depth coverage of issues concerning people affected by and caught
in the prison-industrial complex; and,
Whereas, Eddie Ellis was a giant in his
accomplishments and in his overwhelming compassion and caring for the dispossessed
who achieved significant changes in New York State prison policy while he was
unjustly incarcerated for 25 years (targeted by COINTELPRO for his Black
Panther organizing), and multiplied those successes in the two decades that
followed his release, including co-founding the Center for NuLeadership
for Urban Solutions, dedicated to working to reform injustices in the criminal
justice and prison systems;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the
Pacifica National Board declares its appreciation and recognition of EddieÕs
faithful and generous
service to the Pacifica Foundation, the WBAI
Family, and all persons who value peace and justice.
Approved unanimously by the Pacifica
National
Board, on July 31, 2014.
