Pacifica's
Purple Strategy
Research shows that the outcome of the
2004 Presidential election was determined by less than five
percent of the votes cast in 383 counties nationwide. Many
of our affiliate stations are located in or near these counties.
Pacifica's special programming in 2005 and 2006 will focus
on these "purple" counties.
Our reporting will put emphasis on policies,
not personalities, and highlight a real diversity of views.
We will broadcast those whose voices
are left out of the partisan media conglomerates—civil
liberties groups, environmentalists, labor, people of color,
animal rights activists, women and youth.
Pacifica will be that independent non-partisan
source of news, information and nationally-broadcast Town
Hall meetings—Street Level Radio lifted up to the national
stage.
The Path to Success in 2005-2006
The events of the next two years will
be critical. We at Pacifica pledge to:
- Expand Pacifica's nationwide affiliate
network. We aim to dramatically increase the number of stations
carrying community voices in the next year, focusing on
the purple counties
- Strengthen our Headline News Service
highlighting independent voices from both inside and outside
the United States
- Build street-level, community-oriented
programming in key neighborhoods nationwide
- Go Digital: Rebuild our studios and
Pacifica's satellite and internet radio network which form
the only independent, non-commercial media infrastructure
in the United States
- Nationally broadcast Town Hall meetings
in purple counties nationwide.
Empower Community Voices in 2005-2006!
