Pacifica Radio Release

BERKELEY (Mar. 22) – Winter on-air fund-drives at the five-station Pacifica Radio network climbed more than seven percent from the previous year, Pacifica announced today.

The 2005 winter fund-drive totals are the second highest in Pacifica’s 56-year history, said Dan Coughlin, the network’s Executive Director.

The drives at Pacifica’s five stations totaled just over four million dollars in on-air listener pledges. This year’s figure was up from the $3.75 million posted in winter 04 but down from the record drive of $4.13 million in winter 2003, during the run-up to the Iraq war.

Listeners to WBAI 99.5 FM in New York pledged $1.08 million this winter.

KPFA 94.1FM in Berkeley, California, raised $1.03 million in on-air pledges.

Pacifica station KPFK 90.7 FM in Los Angeles posted more than $1.04 million, up from $900,000 in pledges last winter.

Pacifica station WPFW 89.3 FM in Washington, D.C., registered $545,000, up from $470,000 in winter 2004.

KPFT 90.1 FM in Houston raised $302,000, down slightly from $307,000 in listener pledges last year.

Founded in 1949, Pacifica Radio's mission is to engage in any activity that shall contribute to a lasting understanding between nations and between the individuals of all nations, races, creeds and colors.
